As the situation in Turkey has escalated over the course of the past week and a half, we've been keeping a close eye on the resulting images coming out of Istanbul and other major cities. At times both brutal and exhasuting, these photos shed some light on complicated story that continues to unfold.
Istanbul has always been a small obsession of mine, ever since hearing Alex Webb give a talk on his own fascination with Turkey's largest metropolitan area. Istanbul has stood as a major economic, cultural and religious center for more than 2,500 years of human history -- making the current struggle all the more curious.
