With the world’s best athletes and the world’s best photographers in town, no one wants to miss an opportunity to get The Shot. For Al Bello in Beijing, that meant going to the track on a night he could have been relaxing. “I got this shot of the Russian women reacting to their win on my day off,” he recalls. “I wandered over to the turn, past the finish, and they stopped dead in front of me and looked at the arena scoreboard. Sometimes your luck is just there.”
